Recognition to Black Boxes

Date: 10/09/2009

The project was amongst the four best projects of the world at the contest carried out by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The Institution had qualified the project as one of the best 10 projects presented by governmental institutions during 2008, and has just informed that Uruguay's SEIIC was ranked fourth, after three projects from the United States.

Amongst contestants, there were projects from Canada, Australia, India, Brazil and United States.

SEIIC Black Boxes is installed at 38 beef slaughter plants, which cover 100% of slaughter for the domestic market and for export. It is a series of scales and terminals strategically installed throughout the production process. Through this system the different actors are provided with equal operative conditions and management transparency.

The system is able to combine farm traceability with industrial traceability, keeping the link throughout the slaughter and deboning lines up to the dispatch of beef.

The same project has been recently recognized as the best project of the year 2008 at national level, by the same organization.

In turn, Daniel Abraham, member of the SEIIC Committee, mentioned every point of the Electronic Information System for the Beef Industry and explained that some experiences to combine farm traceability (ear-tags) with industrial traceability (Black boxes) have been developed at some slaughter plants.
